Vegan Aveda Products?
Aveda styling products had been winning the VegNews awards for years, including 2010, 2011 and 2012; however as of early 2012, it was revealed their owner Estee Lauder had begun testing in China where they had recently expanded their sales (China requires animal testing by law). Technically Aveda is no longer cruelty-free, although the wording on their FAQ is somewhat misleading. It's a confusing and touchy subject all hinging on the phrase "We do not conduct animal testing on our products or ingredients, nor ask others to test on our behalf, except when required by law." Here is a article that explains this shift in status, but here's another article that shows that there might be hope for change.
Here is a list of Aveda products (as of 11/04/2010) that contain non-vegan ingredients, but I recommend supporting another company that is truly cruelty-free. Time to start using up those old products and trying some new vegan brands!
