Vegan Pizza and Italian Food in Milwaukee
There is so much great vegan pizza in Milwaukee! You can also find some Italian restaurants with delicious vegan pasta options.
Ian's Pizza Milwaukee (two locations) - Ian's has proclaimed 2017 the Year of the Vegan! Obviously they are really vegan friendly! Get vegan slices on demand 7 days a week between their two locations: Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday at the North Ave location and Thursday, Friday, and Saturday at the Juneau Ave location or order a whole vegan pizza at any time. They have several flavors including lasagna, vegan sausage & pepperoni, vegan mac 'n cheese pizza, salad pizza, and tons of other great veggie toppings. Ian's uses Daiya cheese, and they have recently added Beyond Meat vegan chicken as a topping! Also ask about their vegan breadsticks and dipping sauces. They now carry Blooming Lotus grain-free, vegan desserts.
Classic Slice - Their pizza is a staple in the Bay View neighborhood. For vegans, you can choose one of their specialty pizzas or build your own with the house-made soy cheese or Daiya. They also sell pizza by the slice... and these slices are gigantic! They have delicious vegan pesto which is my favorite thing there and often offer vegan desserts.
Little DeMarini's - Many years ago, there was a place in the Bay View neighborhood called Mama DeMarini's and they offered the first vegan pizza options in Milwaukee and they were delicious. That place closed down awhile back, but those recipes have been revitalized at Little DeMarini's in a new location also in the Bay View neighborhood. They offer vegan pizza and pastas--they also have a vegan pesto that's amazing. If you're feeling like lots of veggies, try the Vegan Italian Garden Pesto Pizza--it's piled high! Or create your own with a large selection of veg toppings (although no fake meats). If you like thin crust pizza, this is a must-try!
Blaze Pizza - Located in Bayshore Mall, they offer daiya vegan cheese and veggies as vegan toppings! You order toppings kind of like at Subway and they put it together for you. Make sure to tell them you're vegan and they'll use a separate pizza cutter so you don't get any cross contamination. There is also a location in Brookfield and there was some question as to whether they offered vegan cheese. Someone recently confirmed that they do (Mar 2017).
MOD Pizza - They offer personal size wood fired personal pizzas and salads. Their crust is vegan as well as three of their sauces (red, BBQ and garlic rub). They also offer vegan cheese! Locations in Shorewood and New Berlin.
Transfer Pizza - Another pizza place that offers soy cheese (they use Teese last I checked) and tons of veggie toppings. Their standard crust is vegan, but their gluten-free crust is not (contains eggs).
Pizza Shuttle - A staple for college students in Milwaukee, they do offer one specialty vegan pizza which I actually like even though the topping combo is kind of weird (tofu, artichokes, onions, mushrooms). You can also make your own with lots of different toppings. They don't offer vegan cheese, but the crust is--ask when you go/call to clarify.
Centro Cafe - This is a tiny Italian restaurant in the Riverwest neighborhood. Great care is taken with all of their dishes and they offer many vegan options. Get there early because this place fills up fast!
California Pizza Kitchen - One of these franchises is located near Bayshore Mall. They indicate very clearly within their vegetarian menu online (scroll all the way to the bottom for "vegan") which items can be made vegan.
Roman Candle Pizzeria - A newer pizza place located in Whitefish Bay (and Madison) that offers a ton of vegetarian options and some vegan options. They don't have vegan cheese, but they do have a pizza called the "vegan destroyer" that sounds really good!
Pizza Man - A local vegan reached out to the chef there and got this info on options: "We have three crust options at Pizza Man (thin, pan/deepdish & gluten free), and all are free of dairy and egg. For sauces, the only one you should avoid is our pesto, which has romano cheese in it.The classic sauce (old school, thicker & sweeter tomato & herbs), Italia sauce (more Italian style, brighter tomato with garlic and olive oil) and our Bianca/garlic sauce (it’s pureed very smooth in a blender so it looks and feels creamy but has no dairy) are all great options for you. We very often make pizzas for our guests that omit cheese, so the kitchen is well versed in these types of requests. We also have a much more extensive selection of vegetables and non-meat & dairy options that many other pizzerias, which most of our vegan guests greatly appreciate. If you were ever in the mood for something other than pizza, we also have a great entree call the Leaf Eater, which is vegan and has been a huge hit since we added it to our menu three years ago."
Wy'east Pizza - They offer a vegan pizza option with no cheese--I haven't tried it yet, but I hear it's really good!
