Vegan-Friendly Indian Restaurants
I love Indian food! There are several Indian restaurants with vegan options throughout the Milwaukee area.
Bombay Sweets - This is an all-vegetarian Indian restaurant on Milwaukee's south side. Order to stay in or carry-out. Ask about the vegan options since they do use ghee (clarified butter) in many dishes.
Indian Delight Restaurant - Located in Oak Creek, just south of Milwaukee, this all vegetarian Indian restaurant isn't fancy, but serves up great food. From their website: "Our chefs are highly trained and experienced, we serve a range of vegetarian, vegan, and gluten free food prepared from very mild to challenge hot options according to your taste. "
Cafe India - Two locations--one in Walker's Point (small informal cafe) and a newer location with ample indoor seating and an outdoor patio in Bay View on Kinnickinnic and Ward. Both offer many vegetarian options and several vegan ones. They clearly mark all the vegan options on the menu and there are many! The naan has dairy in it, but I believe the roti is vegan. It's always best to check first as menu items can change!
Indian Village - This Greenfield restaurant appeared at the 2017 Milwaukee Veg Expo with some great vegan dishes. They have a vegetarian section of their menu--ask your server to clarify what is vegan.
India Garden - They are located in Wauwatosa by the family that used to own Maharaja. There are lots of vegan options and they are clearly marked on the menu.
Anmol - With locations in both Milwaukee and Chicago, this Pakistani and Indian restaurant has many items clearly marked as vegetarian. Check with your server to identify the vegan options.
Royal India - On the south side of Milwaukee on 27th Street, I was told this was one of the more authentic Indian restaurants in town. Ask your server to point out the vegan options.
Tandoor - Indian restaurant on Hwy 100. Lunch buffet on weekends with several vegan options. The regular menu has many vegetarian and vegan options. Ask your server about dishes without dairy.
Maharaja - Located on the east side, they offer a lunch buffet throughout the week and regular lunch and dinner entrees. Generally, I don't find as many vegan options in the buffet usually, but you can always order from the menu. I was recently told that they have dairy products in their rice. Definitely ask about which options are made without butter (ghee), yogurt, or other dairy.
Taj Mahal - Another Indian restaurant on Hwy 100. Check out the site for their menu and a coupon for your next visit. Excellent lunch buffet! As always, ask about which options are dairy-free.
