Once a resident of Milwaukee (and lover of Beans & Barley), Gretchen Primack now lives in New York and publishes poetry on a variety of subjects including animal rights. She also co-wrote The Lucky Ones: My Passionate Fight for Farm Animals. Her new book, Kind, is a collection of poems on our relationship with animals. See an excellent review on the Ecorazzi site and the Our Hen House blog. Even if you're not normally a poetry fan, you owe it to yourself to check it out.
Gretchen will be doing a reading from Kind at Boswell Book Company in Milwaukee on September 30, 2013 at 7:00pm and would love to meet more vegans in the area! It's often challenging for vegan authors to get reading gigs in smaller cities, so let's rally the vegan troops and show Boswell Books that Milwaukee supports vegan and animal rights literature and authors!
I was lucky enough to get a copy of Kind and I couldn't put it down. The poems were so touching and I must admit I shed a few tears. Here is one of my favorite poems from the book:
Maybe someday you will trick
Maybe I will find value in you
on one foot.
I will take you from family,
so I can watch you
Will you bore me? I bore myself
to your conditions, cut off
from my life
and language. None of me
is left; still
you found something
