There are so many restaurants serving american-style vegan food in the Milwaukee area!
On the Bus - Located in the Milwaukee Public Market in the Third Ward neighborhood, this all vegan cafe offers fantastic hot and cold sandwiches, smoothies, bowls, lots of ice cream and much more. They just opened at the end of August 2017. Definitely worth a visit!
Strange Town - Opened in October 2017, this all-vegan restaurant located on the East Side offers a variety of gourmet dishes with a rotating menu.
Urban Beets Cafe and Juicery - Opened in early 2016, this cafe offers an ALL-VEGAN menu with many gluten-free options. Check out the sandwiches, fresh juices and smoothies. They now have a second location in Wauwatosa!
Sip and Purr Cat Cafe - " Every cup of coffee, slice of pie, and vegan cupcake we sell helps us save more homeless cats." They are a cafe with many vegan offerings including a "meat and cheese" board with Herbivorous Butcher vegan meat and cheese! Plus, you can make reservations to snuggle with cats and even adopt one!
Beerline Cafe - New in 2015 to the Riverwest neighborhood, this all-vegetarian restaurant has lots of vegan options and specializes in crepes and paninis.
Tricklebee Cafe - A "pay-what-you-can community café centered on joy, sustainable/healthy eating, & spiritual renewal." Their menu changes regularly, but it looks like mostly everything they offer is vegan and quite a few gluten free options as well. They are located on North Avenue in the Sherman Park area.
Comet Cafe - East side restaurant and bar serving a mix of meaty foods and vegan/vegetarian offerings. Fantastic vegan hazelnut burger, gyro, reuben and many tasty brunch options. Regularly features a selection of vegan desserts, baked at their sister restaurant, Honeypie. Breakfast available daily until 3pm; expanded brunch menu on weekends.
Palomino - Bar and restaurant with a southern feel. They serve usually up until 11pm and have a small selection of vegan options at both brunch and dinner. Vegan fried pickles are amazing! I also recommend the black-eyed pea falafel and the vegan wings.
Beans & Barley - A long-time east side staple in Milwaukee, this restaurant & adjoining market has been well-loved by vegetarians for years. Featuring vegan sandwiches, burritos & fajitas, salads & chili, smoothies, and juices. Beans offers a delicious array of vegan soups, a great selection of vegan desserts (the peanut butter chocolate cake is not to be missed), and a really nice breakfast menu. Breakfast available until 11am weekdays; until 2pm (expanded menu) weekends.
Grassroots - They have locations in Brookfield and Chase Tower downtown and offer salads, wraps and juices with lots of vegan options.
Gypsy Burger - Now called Burger Moto - Located at Rogues Gallery, they offer the plant-based Impossible Burger here! They have a vegan bun with all vegan toppings available--be sure to ask. They have unique hours, so make sure to check before you go!
Stack'd - Located in the 5th Ward, they offer a full bar along with a full kitchen serving several vegan options including a black bean burger and portabella stack. **As of Feb2018, they are now offering the Impossible Burger! They also offer vegan cheese and mayo toppings. Vegan items are marked clearly on the menu.
Bowls Restaurant - Located on Freshwater Way in the Walker's Point area, you'll find lots of healthy vegan options. Opens June 5, 2017.
Honeypie - Bay View restaurant featuring from-scratch menu items and locally-sourced ingredients. Lots of vegan dessert options including cupcakes and pies, and one vegan sandwich. On weekends, try the veganized breakfast burrito for a new twist on an old favorite. Breakfast available daily until 3pm; expanded brunch menu on weekends.
Mi Casa Su Cafe - Chef Rain Truth of The Cultured Vegan holds brunch and dinner pop-ups here most Sundays. She also provides some grab and go items that you can pick up. Although the menu will be changing, follow her on social media to get the latest details. Some of the initial offerings are Mac & Cheeze, Greens, Sweet Candied Yams, Peach Cobbler and you can often find her famous cookies there too!
Cafe Lulu - Located at the intersection of KK and Lincoln in the Bay View neighborhood, Lulu's offers a few vegan items including salads (omit cheese) and my favorite the Hummus pita with tomato and kalamatas. Also, their signature Asian Slaw is vegan and amazingly delicious!
Maxie's Southern Comfort - Features low-country creole and cajun foods. They have a separate vegetarian section to their menu featuring veggie jambalaya, tofu sandwiches and more. Ask your server how to make these vegan.
Oak Barrel Milwaukee - Located in the Third Ward and new in 2018, they offer several vegan options including jackfruit tacos and Impossible Burger meatball subs!
Shanahan's Coffee - OMG, vegan food in Mukwonago! This restaurant has vegan options for breakfast and lunch, but they seem to excel at Sunday brunch where you'll find vegan crepes, belgium waffles, churro waffles and tofu scramble.
Miss Molly's Cafe - A small cafe on Center Street that has several vegan options for breakfast and lunch, including some bakery!
Black Sheep - They are a bar and restaurant located near Walker's Point. They have a few items marked as vegan on their menu--clarify with your server since the website is less clear than the menu in the restaurant.
Hamburger Mary's - They have a vegan black bean burger and the Beyond Meat burger, plus they do fun bingo nights for various fundraisers! Make sure to ask for the vegan pretzel bun!
Goodkind - New to the Bay View neighborhood in 2014, this restaurant has already become a favorite to many restaurant reviewers. As of right now I haven't eaten there yet, but they usually have at least one vegan entree every day and they serve food until 1am!
Lazy Susan - Another newer slow-food restaurant in Bay View specializing in small plates offers at least one vegan entree daily with a constantly changing menu. Offers dinner and Sunday brunch.
Peanut Butter & Jelly Deli - Located in West Allis, this deli specializes in nut butters and jelly. They note vegan options, but I would just double-check which breads are vegan before ordering.
Company Brewing - Located in the Riverwest area, they have a few fancy vegan dinner and brunch options. They also brew beer and have a full bar. Music shows are offered multiple times per week.
Good City Brewing - A brewery located on the east side of Milwaukee. They offer a tofu scramble for brunch that seems vegan and the Impossible Burger on their lunch/dinner menu. There has been some back-and-forth about whether they have a vegan bun, so please check with your server.
Cafe Centraal - A large Bay View establishment with a huge beer selection and a few vegan options. The vegan items are always clearly marked, but change seasonally. Ask the wait staff to clarify. Avoid the veggie burger (has dairy in it), but they do offer the Impossible Burger.
Dog Haus - With five locations in the city, a fantastic Chicago style vegan hot dog is never too far away!
Cudahy Burger Joint - They've expanded their menu to include the Impossible Burger, a vegan brat and vegan Italian sausage. The most recent menu appears to be on GrubHub. Verify with your server on buns and toppings to make sure you get the full vegan experience.
Dr. Dawg - A restaurant dedicated to hot dogs a location in Glendale. They offer two types of Field Roast brand vegan sausages served with caramelized onions or other chicago style toppings on a poppy seed bun. They also offer the Field Roast veggie burger.
Outpost "Fork in the Road" Cafe - These are small cafes located within the three different Outpost Co-op Natural Foods grocery stores. They offer a couple vegan options and it's worth a visit just for the Joey's Tofu Steak Sandwich.

AJ Bombers - A famous burger joint in Milwaukee on Water Street. They have a vegan black bean burger option as well and as of late 2017 it sounds like they also offer the Beyond Meat vegan burger.
Hi Fi Cafe - Coffee shop and cafe in the Bay View neighborhood offering vegan chili, falafel, and some sandwiches that can be modified to be made vegan.
The Green Kitchen - Located in the Milwaukee Public Market near downtown, they offer a make-your-own salad option, freshly made juices, two vegan sandwiches and two vegan wraps. I go here for lunch all the time--all the choices are delicious.
The National - A cafe serving brunch and lunch. Several vegan options for each meal and a nice atmosphere.
Odd Duck - This farm-to-table restaurant opened in Bay View in April 2012. Although there aren't tons of vegan selections, what they do have is extremely flavorful and delicious. They also have very creative drinks, if you're so inclined.
Fuel Cafe (Riverwest) - Cool coffeehouse where none of the furniture or the dishes match, but there is always good art on the walls. They have a few vegan lunch options, and a fantastic vegan chili served only on the weekends.
Fuel Cafe (Walker's Point) - New in 2017, this location of Fuel Cafe has a whole different menu, but still offers several vegan options from breakfast (avocado toast) through dinner (fantastic vegan burger or sloppy joes)).
South Shore Terrace - This beer garden in Bay View is right on the lake, has great atmosphere for the summer months including fire pits. You can get the Impossible Burger here too!
Kindred - Located in the Bay View neighborhood of Milwaukee, they offer a few gourmet vegan dishes and fancy cocktails.
Farmer's Wife - They are located in West Allis and offer some vegan options as noted on the menu such as, tofu wings and an oyster mushroom po' boy. I haven't been there yet, so be sure to check with your server on what is vegan.
Cloud Red - A bar and restaurant located in Shorewood. They have a rotating menu that usually offers some vegan option.

Bounce Milwaukee - Looking to take the kids for a day of fun with bounce houses, laser tag, wall climbing, video games and more? Or maybe you want to have some fun yourself and have some food and drinks while you're at it? Bounce Milwaukee has vegan food options--you can get Daiya cheese on pizza (love the DaVinci pizza), get awesome tater tots or even a hummus wrap.
County Clare - This Milwaukee Irish Inn and restaurant has been in business for years--they have a restaurant, pub, B&B and they also offer tours in Ireland (which I did back in 2004). They have a completely separate vegetarian menu now, with some options available vegan. They label things as vegetarian and then dairy-free and gluten-free. Check with your server for details on what can be made vegan.
Three Lions Pub - A British pub that offers a vegan shepherd's pie.
On the Way Cafe - Opened in 2017 in Mequon. Offers juices, smoothies and several vegan dishes for breakfast, lunch or dinner.
Fresh Cafe and Juice Bar - Located in Mequon, this cafe has many healthy vegan and raw options available.
Ambrosia Juice Co. - Located in Kenosha, this restaurant specializes in fresh juices and smoothies and also offers a few vegan food options.
Good Harvest Market Cafe - This is a cafe located within the Good Harvest Market in Pewaukee, WI. The cafè has multiple vegan options, including the popular "Very Vegan" sandwich, as well as vegan hot bar/salad bar options during the week.
Vanguard - Located in Bay View, this bar offers counter service dedicated to house-made sausages. If you can get past all the meaty options, you'll find a whole page of vegan menu options from sausage and burgers to their spectacular tofu!
Riverwest Filling Station - They offer a vegan sloppy joe sandwich and possibly a few other items that can be made vegan.
Balzac - They offer a vegan cheese plate made with Miyoko's cheese, along with cheese and crackers. They may have additional vegan options as well--ask your server for details.
Colour Palate - Hand-crafted salads, soups and breads. Located downtown on Water street. Several vegan options marked on the menu. Tempeh and Gardein proteins available.
SnackBoyz - A fun bar located in the Walker's Point area that offers several vegan options on their food menu.
Fat Dan's - Located in St. Francis, they clearly label their vegan options on the menu including salads, veggie burger, buffalo cauliflower wrap and pizza.
Cafe Hollander - With several locations across the area including Brookfield, Mequon, the east side, Wauwatosa and even Madison, you can now have the Impossible burger on a pretzel bun there!
North Star American Bistro - Located in Brookfield, they carry the Impossible Burger for lunch and dinner and a vegan pizza on their lunch menu as well!
Northpoint Custard - The custard stand at Bradford Beach has you covered with their version of the Impossible Burger. Be sure to ask for a vegan bun!
Point Burger Bar - Located in the Waukesha area, they offer a build-your-own burger with a vegan patty, and a couple other burger options including the Impossible Burger.
Safehouse - Milwaukee's spy-themed bar and restaurant. Lots of great drinks and they do offer a vegan "Smersh" burger as an option at their restaurant. Take time to look around if you've never been there. And, if you don't know the password, prepare to work hard for your entry. ;)
Rumpus Room - As of June 2017, they have one vegan entree, but it sounds delicious. Keep an eye on their menu...I bet they'll add more options in the future!
Ugly's - A downtown bar and pub that carries a vegan burger that's labeled as vegan in the menu. I haven't tried it yet and I'm not sure about any other menu items, but it's a start!
Merriment Social - They are now offering the Impossible Burger, but I haven't confirmed whether the bun is vegan. Be sure to check with your server.
Milwaukee Burger Company - Located in Franklin, they offer the Beyond Burger with a variety of toppings.
