Hey everyone! Things have been so busy that I've been relying on Facebook posts rather than updating the blog. My apologies to anyone who looks to the blog for the latest info.

Now, on to the topic at hand....The next Milwaukee Vegan Bake Sale is Saturday May 11th from 10am to 4pm at the Riverside location of the Urban Ecology Center.

You can find lots of details at the Milwaukee Vegan Bake Sale website, as well as the Facebook event

There will be tons of great bakery items including cupcakes, cookies, cheesecakes and even dog treats!

From Steph, the organizer:
"Proceeds will be split 50/50 between Urban Ecology Center and Milwaukee's Safe Haven Program, a partnership between the Wisconsin Humane Society and Sojourner Family Peace Center offering up to 60 days of shelter for companion animals of domestic violence victims."

Great treats for an even greater cause! Stock up for Mother's Day celebrations or to keep all to yourself :)  See you there!!

There are so many awesome things about this bake sale, I don't know where to begin. First of all, I know SO MANY amazing vegan bakers in Milwaukee! From home bakers who have perfected their treats to professional vegan bakers like Compassionate Cake, to a fabulous gal who wrote her own vegan cookie cookbook (Kelly Peloza); we will not be short on delicious sweet treats!

Second, all the proceeds are going to be donated 50/50 to two great organizations. I've fallen in love with both of them. If you haven't visited The Urban Ecology Center, it's a must-see. The facility is just beautiful and they do amazing work for the environment and the community. I've visited the Heartland Farm Sanctuary twice now and I can't get enough! Oh, how I wish it was closer to where I live so I could volunteer! They rescue farm animals (awesome), but also work with the community to help educate children and give them an opportunity to use their talents to help the animals. They even do nursing home visits to let those residents enjoy the company of a friendly farm animal. Amazing, right?!

The third awesome thing is the wonderful person who runs the bake sale twice a year: Stephanie. Read a great interview with Stephanie written by Kelly Peloza. She not only works hard to organize the event, but is also a fantastic baker and candy-maker.

So, make sure you check out the bake sale and bring your friends, both vegan and non-vegan because there's something for everyone!

The next Milwaukee Vegan Bake Sale is coming up fast on Saturday December 3rd. This time around, 50% of the money raised will go to the Milwaukee Animal Rescue Center, a no-kill shelter that is preparing to purchase and move to a new facility to house more animals. The other 50% will go to the gracious hosts of the bake sale, the Urban Ecology Center.

To get a feel for the way it works, the history and the woman behind the vegan bake sale, check out Kelly Peloza's excellent blog post.

There are two ways to get involved. First, if you have a favorite vegan bakery item that you love to make, PLEASE share it with the rest of us by contributing to the bake sale. Sign-up is simple and there are even links to recipes if you want to bake, but don't know where to begin. You can find the sign-up form online here.

Second, and my favorite, is you can get involved by showing up and buying amazing vegan baked goods and sharing them with friends and family (or keeping them all for yourself)!
